President Donald Trump this week suggested that the FBI may investigate the death of Nolan Wells, a black teen, who was found dead after a Fourth of July trip in Mississippi.
Wells's death prompted allegations of a race-based murder, with media coverage highlighting that his friends, with whom he took the trip, were white. A grand jury, however, declined to bring charges, finding no evidence of criminal activity in Wells's death.
When pressed on the possibility of a separate FBI probe into Wells's death, Trump told reporters "we're looking at that."
Wells family attorney Ben Crump reacted positively to Trump's remarks, saying “[o]ur team stands ready to work with the federal government to ensure Nolan’s death is investigated to the fullest extent," according to the New York Post.
