Billboard names Colombian artist Karol G as its 2024 Woman of the Year
The artist "has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and inspiring confidence," said the publication's editorial director, Hannah Karp.
Billboard magazine announced Thursday that it is awarding its 2024 Woman of the Year award to Colombian singer Karol G. It is another in the long list of awards and recognitions for the artist this year.
Her album "Mañana Será Bonito" won the Latin Grammy for Best Album of the Year. In addition, Karol G achieved her first American Grammy this past year. She won the award for Best Urban Music Album for the same album that already gave her the highest award at the Hispanic awards ceremony.
Karol G 'created a movement for women across the globe'
These reasons, together with the number of listens and streams that her songs achieved this year, made her worthy of the award. But not only this. As explained by Billboard Editorial Director Hannah Karp, Karol G "has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and inspiring confidence" and that also makes her worthy of the 2024 Woman of the Year recognition:
Karol G will receive the award at a gala on March 6. She told the AP : "You know, I feel a lot of responsibility about that. As a woman, I have to say, like in my experience, it was tough, like so many things, to be a girl in this industry, in the music that I do, in urban music."
During the ceremony, the publication will also honor Charli XCX, Ice Spice, Kylie Minogue, Luisa Sonza, Maren Morris, Newjeans, Teams, Victoria Monet and Young Miko, among others.
