'Harry & Meghan': first trailer for documentary on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex
The docuseries starring the British royal couple has no premiere date yet. Some outlets have claimed, however, that it will arrive on Netflix on Dec. 8.
Nearly three months after Queen Elizabeth II passed away at Balmoral, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have released the first trailer for the Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan. The trailer, just over a minute long, begins with a question addressed to Harry: "Why did you want to make this documentary?" followed by several black and white snapshots of the couple during some of the moments of their life together. "No one sees what's happening behind closed doors," replies the son of King Charles III.
The teaser for the documentary, which industry sources say could air in just a week on Dec. 8, per Daily Mail, continues with images of the disgruntled duchess. This is followed by snapshots of her life while she was part of the British family where you can also see pictures of Kate Middleton and Prince William as well as images of hundreds of paparazzi watching their every move.
These images exemplify what Harry later states, the reason why he decided to leave his duties in the British royal family: "I had to do everything I could to protect my family," followed by another flurry of images showing different moments of the British monarchy.
The trailer ends with American and former actress Meghan Markle stating why she wanted to make this documentary: "When the stakes are this high, doesn't it make more sense to hear our story from us?"
Synopsis
The documentary, for which the couple was paid £88 million ($108 million), is produced by Netflix. The streaming platform has already opened a webpage for Harry & Meghan where it defines the project as an "unprecedented, six-part documentary series," where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex "share the other side of their high-profile love story."
The documentary "explores the span of their relationship, from the early days of the couple’s courtship to the challenges and controversies that prompted them to step back from the royal family," thus providing a "never-before-seen look at one of the most discussed couples in history."
