Ron DeSantis appointed Meredith L. Sasso, of Hispanic origin, as a new justice of the Florida Supreme Court. The governor has entrusted her to fill the seat vacated by Judge Ricky Poulson at the beginning of 2023.
"I am proud to appoint Judge Meredith Sasso to the Florida Supreme Court because her fidelity to the constitution will help preserve freedom in our state for generations to come," DeSantis said via his Twitter account. "As a Cuban-American woman who understands the importance of our constitutional system and the rule of law, Judge Sasso will serve our state well."

The new state Supreme Court justice thanked DeSantis for the confidence he placed in her and affirmed, "I am resolutely committed to upholding the rule of law for as long as it is my privilege to serve." She added that "the judiciary plays a critical and unique role in our constitutional government."
Sasso becomes the third woman to serve as a sitting judge on the Florida Supreme Court. Until now, she held the position of chief judge in the state's Sixth District Court of Appeals. She also served as an advisor to former Governor Rick Scott.
