YouTube has reactivated Donald Trump's account. Alphabet Inc, owner of the platform, announced that the former president will be able to post videos and live-stream for the first time in two years since his account was restricted.

Days after the riots occurred on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, YouTube decided to censor Trump claiming that the former president did not respect the platform’s policies for posting content. In addition, users were restricted from commenting on the former president's videos.

YouTube's vice president of public policy, Leslie Miller, told Axios that the 2024 Republican primary candidate will be able to re-upload content starting March 17, though he must abide by the platform's policies:

We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run-up to an election. This channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube.

In November, Twitter reinstated Donald Trump's profile after Elon Musk asked users whether or not to reactivate it. More than half, 52%, voted in favor. Two months later Mark Zuckerberg restored the former president’s access to his Instagram and Facebook accounts.
