Welcome to Florida: the 'Sunshine State' has the highest domestic migration rate

In the last decade, 1,627,395 Americans have moved to Florida from other states.

Florida had the best economic performance in the entire United States over the last decade, followed by Utah, Arizona, Idaho and Colorado. According to the American Legislative Exchange Council's Rich States, Poor States report, the Sunshine State was the number one state in domestic migration.

In the last ten years, 1,627,395 Americans have moved to Florida. So far in 2023, many have made the decision to leave cities like New York and head to sunny Florida.

The American Legislative Exchange Council report also revealed that Florida topped the list because it is the state with the fifth-highest Gross Domestic Product and the fourth-highest percentage of non-farm jobs. It is also ranked ninth for its economic outlook.

Since Ron DeSantis took office as governor in 2019, the Sunshine State has had a low tax burden and employment-friendly policies, attracting Americans to settle in the state. At the beginning of DeSantis' term, Florida had an average economic growth rate of 4%. Today it is at 14%.

Leading state in population growth

The U.S. Census Bureau reported that Florida was second only to Texas in population growth numbers between 2021 and 2022. It ranks number one for percentage growth with an increase of 1.9%.

Different organizations or institutions have pointed out in their reports that Florida is positioning itself as the most popular state among Americans. For example, it was revealed that it is the state with the greatest educational freedom. It is also the one that attracts the most high-income families. It is the best state for doing business and the leader when it comes to attracting talent and a skilled labor force.
