Los Annie Awards celebraron el sábado, 25 de febrero su 50 edición. La gala en la que se premia a los largometrajes más importantes en la industria de la animación tuvo un gran protagonista: Guillermo del Toro.
La película del cineasta mexicano se alzó con cinco de los nueve premios a los que optaba en los Annie Awards, entre los que se encuentra el de Mejor Película y Mejor Dirección. Continúa así con l a buena racha que Del Toro ha ostentado en esta temporada de premios. Su película, Guillermo del Toro's Pinnochio, ha sido una de las triunfadoras en los Globos de Oro, los Critics Choice Awards y los BAFTA y parte como la gran favorita para alzarse con la estatuilla a Mejor Película de Animación en la 95ª edición de los Óscars que se celebrarán el próximo 12 de marzo.
Pero los Annie Awards tienen un significado especial para Del Toro. Era uno de los pocos galardones que se le resistían. Hasta ahora. Por eso, el cineasta mexicano quiso celebrar por todo lo alto hacerse con este galardón. Y así lo manifestó en el discurso que dio al subir al escenario de la ceremonia organizada por la Asociación Internacional de Películas Animadas (ASIFA-Hollywood en inglés): "¿Puedo decir esto? Quería tanto a la p*** Annie. ¡Es la cosa más hermosa del mundo! Lo que puedo decir sobre Pinnochio es que fue hecha por artistas, y los animadores fueron tratados como elenco y no como técnicos", afirmó en declaraciones recogidas por Variety. Además, aseguró que trabajar en el campo de la animación le había sorprendido gratamente:
He tenido la suerte de compartir trincheras con muchos de ustedes y debo decir, he estado dirigiendo por casi 33 años y el campo de la animación es el más creativo y fantástico en el que he trabajado.
La segunda gran ganadora en estos premios, que homenajean tanto a la gran pantalla como a la pequeña, fue Marcell the Shell With Shoes On, un largometraje que narra la historia de una concha que está buscando a su familia. Este filme logró llevarse los Annie Awards a Mejor Guion Independiente, Mejor Guion y Mejor Doblaje para Jenny Slate que pone voz a la pequeña Marcel.
