U.S. to provide $1 billion to Ukraine

The military package is the largest ever recorded in the history of the two nations.

The Department of Defense announced that the United States has authorized the largest delivery of military aid to Ukraine. An item that includes ammunition, weapons and equipment worth US$1 billion.

"The package provides a significant amount of additional ammunition, weapons and equipment which the Ukrainian people are using so effectively to defend their country," explained Colin Kahl, Undersecretary of Defense for Political Affairs

Among the items included in the latest package are additional ammunition for the high-mobility artillery rockets, or HIMARS; 75,000 rounds of 155 mm artillery ammunitionThe project includes: twenty 120 mm mortar systems and 20,000 rounds of 120 mm mortar ammunition; ammunition for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, or NASAMS; and 1,000 Javelin and hundreds of AT4 anti-armor systems.

"These are all critical capabilities to help the Ukrainians repel the Russian offensive in the east, and also to address evolving developments in the south and elsewhere," Kahl added.

Since the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, the United States has sent about $9.1 billion in security assistance to Ukrainians through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and the presidential drawdown authority

The Department of Defense has estimated that Russia has had between 70,000 and 80,000 killed or wounded in less than six months.
