Tunisia on the verge of elimination after 1-0 loss to Australia

The Tunisian national team must beat France to survive. Australia will advance to the round of 16 with a win against Denmark.

Australia defeated Tunisia 1-0 in a tightly contested match at the Al Janoub Stadium. The Australian team held command throughout most of the match, although the Tunisians did not lose without a fight. With the win, Australia controls its destiny to qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup. Tunisia missed a magnificent opportunity to get points and will now have to beat France to even have a chance of reaching the next round.

Mitchell Duke's header gave Australia its first win at the World Cup in Qatar. The Australians outplayed their opponents from the start. Tunisia showed their best in the second half, creating many chances but with no luck. Australian goalkeeper Matthew Ryan and midfielder Aaron Mooy headlined a stellar defensive performance by Australia.

With the victory, Australia is tied with France atop the group, though France has a game in hand. Denmark even with Tunisia at the bottom of Group D ahead of its match with France later today.
