Tucker Carlson is back and will launch his new show on Twitter

The former Fox News host said he would use the social network because it is a space where freedom of expression is truly respected.

Former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson used Twitter to announce that not only will his program return, but this time it will be presented on Elon Musk's social network because it is a space in which he considers freedom of expression to be respected.

This Tuesday, Carlson uploaded a three-minute video in which he explained that he has decided to continue with the program he was doing on Fox News but will now do so through Twitter because, unlike traditional news channels, the social network "is not a partisan site" and allows for free speech.

"Amazingly, as of tonight, there aren't many platforms left that allow free speech. The last big one remaining in the world — the only one — is Twitter, where we are now," he said.

The Fox News anchor added that on Twitter, the debate over what is discussed on cable news is allowed, which is why he chose that platform to continue doing the program. He also mentioned that he will add new things to it: "Starting soon, we will be bringing a new version of the show we've been doing for the last six and a half years to Twitter. We'll be bringing some other things too, which we'll tell you about. But for now, we're just grateful to be here," he said.

Information manipulation

During the video, he took the opportunity to say that he witnessed firsthand how the media manipulates information. "The news you consume is a lie—a lie of the stealthiest and most insidious kind. Facts have been withheld on purpose, along with proportion and perspective. You are being manipulated," he said, adding that you can't have freedom if you don't allow people to say what they believe to be true.

Tucker takes the Fox audience with him

Within minutes of Fox News's announcement that Carlson would no longer work at the television channel, the corporation's stock dropped 5.4%, and the network's viewership declined.

In a matter of days, the network lost half of the prime-time audience: the time slot of Carlson's program. Meanwhile, the first video that Carlson posted on Twitter after his departure has already exceeded 20 million views and the tweet has reached more than 70 million people.

Elon Musk reacts to Carlson's tweet: "We have not signed a deal"

Twitter's CEO was quick to respond to Tucker Carlson's tweet. Elon Musk said in a tweet that Carlson has not signed a deal with the platform and that he will be just another content creator, meaning that he will have to follow the same rules as everyone else:

Meanwhile, Carlson's tweet continues to draw interest from Twitter. In less than 12 hours, the video has been played a total of 13.8 million times and the tweet has more than 67.5 million views and 146,000 retweets.
