Tornadoes leave more than 300,000 people without power in Texas

In Dallas, tornado sirens were activated as extreme weather affected the surrounding area. More than 400 flights were cancelled.

Hundreds of thousands of people were affected by the winter storm in northeast Texas and southeast Oklahoma. According to PowerOutage.us, more than 300,000 Texans suffered power outages after several tornadoes passed through Dallas, Fort Worth and neighboring towns. No fatalities were reported, but there was significant damage to hundreds of businesses, cars and homes.

Dallas's local government activated tornado sirens after the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a warning for nearby towns. "If your phone is alerted and you hear sirens, that's for wind speeds as strong as a weak tornado," the NWS reported.

On top of the tornadoes, strong winds were recorded in excess of 70 mph, and a multitude of lightning strikes were witnessed. As reported by FlightAware.com, these phenomena caused the cancellation of more than 400 flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field.
