Tina Turner dies at age 83

The singer was battling a serious illness and spent the last years of her life in Switzerland, resting from a long, hard life.

Tina Turner, one of the most recognized voices in the world of Soul and Rock, has died at the age of 83. According to her spokesperson, she passed away at her home in Kusnacht, Switzerland, where she spent the last years of her life battling a long illness.

In 2013, the same year she announced the end of her music career, she renounced her U.S. nationality to Swiss and moved to Europe.

Tina Turner was born in Tennessee in 1939 and began to gain popularity in the late 1950s when she formed a duo with Iker Turner, her husband of 16 years. Throughout her career, she won eight Grammys. In 2018 she was honored with one of the highest accolades a singer can receive, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
