Republicans blame Mayorkas for 'abject failure' of immigration policy

Several congressional Republicans are calling on the DHS secretary to forward them the Biden Administration's plans for securing the southern border.

The Republican Party in the House of Representatives again asked Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for the Biden Administration's plans to secure the southern border. Conservative members of Congress warned Mayorkas that they will blame him for the "abject failure" of the Democratic administration's immigration policy if they win a majority on the floor in the midterms.

Speaking to The Washington Times, James Comer, one of the Republican members of the House Oversight and Reforms Committee, stressed, "President Biden's border crisis continues to break all the wrong records. Oversight Committee Republicans are committed to holding the Biden Administration accountable for its dereliction of duty to secure the border. The American people demand transparency and accountability."

"Breaking all the wrong records."

In the written request to Mayorkas, the congressional Republicans assert that "We cannot endure another year of the Biden Administration’s failed border policies. We have written to the DHS fifteen times this Congress to conduct greater supervision and oversight of the border crisis. Again, we have requested documents and further information to understand the Biden Administration's plans, if any, to secure the border."

According to data released by Customs and Border Protection, a record 2.4 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border this last fiscal year. In addition, under Mayorkas, drug trafficking has also increased. CBP, for example, announced that it seized 2.2 tons of illegal drugs in just two raids.
