Republican Larry Elder announces 2024 presidential bid

The conservative commentator said on Twitter that with his candidacy he seeks to avoid the decline of America.

Renowned broadcaster and talk radio host Larry Elder announced that he will run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

The political commentator, who in 2021 sought to replace California Governor Gavin Newsom in a failed recall election attempt, announced his decision on the "Tucker Carlson Tonight" television program broadcast on Fox News.

"America is in decline, but this decline is not inevitable. We can enter a new American Golden Age, but we must choose a leader who can bring us there. That’s why I’m running for President," he tweeted after sharing the news with Carson on the show.

The conservative now joins a list of Republican leaders who aspire to become President of the United States but who must first compete in the party's primaries.

Elder, 70, enters the race that also features former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.

Elder has been a Trump supporter, although in 2020 he went so far as to admit that Joe Biden won fairly.

In his well-known career as a commentator, Elder has spent the last few decades in the media industry. He has his own radio show, has written several books and has hosted various television programs.

The latest Republican candidate to launch a presidential bid also practiced law and started his own firm called Laurence A. Elder & Associates, which he owned for at least 15 years.
