Nine injured, including four children, during Memorial Day celebration in Hollywood Beach, Florida

All evidence points to a confrontation between two gangs.

At least nine people, including four minors, were injured in a shooting Monday night during a Memorial Day celebration on the Hollywood Beach boardwalk in Florida. The boardwalk is a popular tourist destination that was packed with visitors on Memorial Day.

All the victims were in stable condition, said Yanet Obarrio Sanchez, a spokeswoman for Memorial Healthcare System, in statements reported by the AP.

Deanna Bettineschi, the Hollywood Police Department spokesperson, reported that several of the injured were transported to a children's hospital. The wounded are four children between the ages of 1 and 17, along with five adults between the ages of 25 and 65.

The shooting occurred shortly before 7:00 pm. A fight broke out next to the beach - most likely a confrontation between two gangs - and several shots were fired. At least one person was in custody, and several more were being questioned.

"I am saddened and angered by the incident in Hollywood Beach in which innocent bystanders were injured as a result of this shooting altercation between two groups," said City of Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy.
