A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck off the Southern California coast early Wednesday morning. Preliminary data indicated that it occurred about 9.9 miles south of Malibu Beach and its epicenter was about 7.5 miles from Los Angeles, according to information from the National Geological Survey (USGS).
Authorities reported that for the moment there is no damage or victims.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) launched the strategic search for damage in all major "areas of concern." No incidents or injuries were reported:
LAFD completed a strategic search of 470 square miles in the city of Los Angeles following the 4.2M earthquake near Malibu. No damage or injuries were reported and normal operations resumed.
No tsunami warning has been issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Magnitude 6.4 earthquake a few weeks ago
The earthquake comes just weeks after a magnitude 6.4 quake shook parts of northern California. At least two people were killed and several were injured.
