Latin Grammy Awards are heading to Spain

The 24th edition of the music awards ceremony will be held outside of the United States for the first time. Seville was chosen to host the event.

Spain will host this year’s Latin Grammy awards. For the first time in its history, the award ceremony will take place outside the United States. This year’s venue for the awards ceremony is in Andalusia, a region in southern Spain.

The news was announced by the President of the Andalusian Government, Juanma Moreno, at a press conference held just after the politician met with the CEO of the Latin Recording Academy, Manuel Abud: "I feel great satisfaction and pride that our region is hosting the Latin Grammys. It is a worldwide show that all of Andalusia will embrace,” he said.

Seville is the most likely city to host the Latin Grammys

What the president has yet to confirm is the city where the event will take place. Many people suspect that Seville, the capital of Andalusia could be the lucky place. In fact, Moreno hinted that it is very likely: "Personally, I think that Seville meets more than enough of the requirements because of its link with the Latin world and because it is used to organizing major events.”

The mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz, was very pleased that his city is in the running to host the Latin Grammy Awards. According to a tweet, the city has proven itself to be capable of organizing an event of this magnitude:

After two editions of the Goya Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards, the great Dior fashion show.... We have shown that #Sevilla is ready to host major international events. And we continue! Next target ▶️ Latin Grammy Awards.

According to El País the agreement had been in the works for some time, but the council recently intensified contacts with the Latin Recording Academy. They even visited the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos and attended the Goya awards ceremony, according to sources. The CEO said that this agreement will last for three years although that does not mean that the awards ceremony will be held for the three years in the same region: "The ceremony will be in Andalusia this year, after that it will probably return to the United States."
