Jill Biden tested positive for Covid-19. The first lady's office reported Tuesday the positive result of a PCR test after she developed "cold-like symptoms."
The first lady presents "mild symptoms" according to her Communications Director Elizabeth Alexander. "After testing negative for Covid-19 this Monday during her regular tests, the first lady began developing cold-like symptoms late last night. She was negative again in a rapid antigen test, but a PCR test was positive," her office explained.
The president's wife, vaccinated with two initial doses and two boosters, is taking Pfizer's antiviral drug Paxlovid. Jill Biden is currently in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, vacationing with President Joe Biden, who is due to return to Washington to sign the anti-inflation bill.
"She is currently in a private residence in South Carolina and will return home after receiving two consecutive negative Covid-19 tests," the statement from the first lady's office said.
Joe Biden's positives
Joe Biden first tested positive for covid on July 21, experiencing symptoms such as coughing and sore throat. After isolation and treatment with Paxlovid, the president experienced a new infection and tested positive again. Finally, his physician reported a negative test on August 6 and broke his isolation.
The president, who was with his family in South Carolina, is considered a close contact and will wear a mask for the next 10 days indoors and when in contact with others, according to the White House.
The president tested negative in the covid test performed this Tuesday.
