Tragedy struck the tourism sector in Mexico. A group of armed men robbed a resort in the state of Guanajuato. They opened fire and killed three women, three men and a seven-year-old child.
According to Mexican authorities, the attack took place at the La Palma beach resort in the town of Cortázar. Witnesses claimed that a group of at least 20 men armed with assault rifles arrived at the site by car and opened fire indiscriminately on the resort’s guests and patrons.

According to the owner of the resort, quoted by EFE news agency, the assailants carried out more damage before leaving, ripping out the establishment's security equipment. Mexican authorities did not provide further details on what happened. The motive for the attack remains unknown. It is also not known if any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
In March, the U.S. Government, through the U.S. State Department, reiterated its recommendations against traveling to Mexico for spring break due to the strong climate of violence in the country. In a video circulating on social media, one of the resort’s patrons who survived the attack shared some images and fearful commentary on the attack.
