The Comic Con Experience of Sao Paulo (CCXP) in Brazil opened its doors Thursday and brought together fans of all sorts of series, movies and comics for a four-day event. Attendees got a sneak peak at some of the most anticipated new movies and series to be released in 2023.
The kick-off of the event, which was streamed on the CCXP site, was given by Marvel and Walt Disney Studios. The company released previews of the two of next year's most anticipated movies: Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
'Guardians of the Galaxy' says goodbye
The movie trailer starring Chris Pratt, who will soon voice Super Mario on the big screen, was the highlight of the first day of CCXP. Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 puts an end to one of Marvel's most entertaining sagas, where the 80s anthems are just as prominent as the actors who appear on screen.
The actress who plays Gamora, Zoe Saldaña, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige presented the trailer to fans. The film, which will hit the big screen on May 5, 2023, will tell the story of how Peter (Pratt), still recovering from Gamora's absence, must once again lead his team to defend the galaxy while protecting one of their own.
As with the other two films in the saga, James Gunn will serve as writer and director, while Dave Bautista, Karen Guillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper return as Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Groot and Rocket, respectively. Joining the cast is actor Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, the enemy that could destroy this band of misfits for good.
Harrison Ford puts on Indiana Jones' hat for last time
The film franchise about the archaeologist hero will also come to an end in 2023. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth film of the saga, produced by Lucasfilm and starring Harrison Ford, will be the actor's last appearance as Indy.
The film, which hits theaters June 30, will follow Indiana Jones on his last adventure before hanging up his hat for good. He will be joined by Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renne Wilson, Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The feature film is the first in the saga not to be directed by Steven Spielberg, who decided to focus on production and handed over the role of director to James Mangold. It will also be the final film composed by John Williams before he retires. The musician bids farewell to Indiana Jones after composing the soundtrack for Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981.
Pedro Pascal announces the premiere date of the third season of 'The Mandalorian'
Chilean actor Pedro Pascal also visited fans at CCXP to promote another of Lucasfilm's hits, The Mandalorian. While they did not unveil a preview, they excited Star Wars fans by announcing the premiere date of the third season: March 1.

The new season will continue the story from another Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, with Mando and Grogu reunited again and heading to Mandalore to meet an old ally, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). Carl Weathers (who plays Greef Karga in The Mandalorian) said at the Star Wars Celebration 2022 that the new episodes are "very intense, with a lot of action but also character," stating that fans of both the series and Star Wars will "love it."
'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' kicks off Phase 5 of Marvel Cinematic Universe
After Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ended Phase 4 of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), the company will return to the big screen on Feb. 17, 2023 to begin the long-awaited Phase 5.
The film to kick off this new cycle will be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily as Scott Lang and Hope Pym Van Dyne. The two were joined by the rest of the film's cast (Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer and the addition of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror) onstage at CCXP to launch a special little teaser they titled The Legacy of Ant-Man.
In the film, Scott, his daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) and the Pym Van Dyne family travel to the quantum realm to live a new adventure in which they will face Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). Kang is poised to play a very important role in the rest of Phase 5 while the new universe is explored.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be directed by Peyton Reed, who was also behind the camera on the previous two installments. It will feature special appearances by Randall Park as agent Jimmy Woo along with William Jackson Harper and Bill Murray in roles that have not yet been disclosed.
'Transformers' introduces its new trilogy
Another film saga that made big announcements at CCXP was Transformers. The new film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which hits theaters June 9, will kick off a new trilogy based on the popular alien cars. CCXP fans were the first to see the trailer:
The feature film will be a sequel to the 2018 film, Bumblebee, and will feature three new alien races that inhabit Earth alongside the Autobots and Decepticons: the Maximals, Predacons and Terrorcons.
All of them will fight to survive on our planet in the so-called "Beast Wars," as Optimus Prime reveals why he remains so loyal to humans. Steven Caple Jr. will direct the film, which will once again feature Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg as part of the production team.
