Grammys 2023: Beyoncé, most-awarded artist in Grammys history

With 32, the Texan becomes the singer with the most awards. Sam Smith and Kim Petras criticized for their satanic performances at a gala where Hispanics also triumphed.

The 65th Grammy Awards had a clear protagonist: Beyoncé. In the almost three decades of career in which she has been delighting us with her music and her voice, the Queen of R&B (Rhythm and Blues) became the most awarded musical artist in history with no less than 32 awards, surpassing the previous holder, Hungarian conductor Georg Solti.

The massively successful Texan singer - born in Houston - arrived to the gala with nine nominations, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year, categories in which she was not finally awarded. Instead, she won four golden gramophones for Best R&B Song, Best Dance Recording, Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best Traditional R&B Performance.

Apart from Beyoncé's milestone, the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles -historically known as Staples Center- left us with other award-winning stars such as Harry Styles, Ozzy Osbourne and Bonnie Raitt. The Hispanic world also held some prominent places in the overall list of award winners, such as Rosalía -BestRock Album/Latin Alternative Music-, Rubén Blades -BestLatin Pop Album- or Bad Bunny -BestUrban Music Album-. The Puerto Rican singer's beats and lyrics lifted the audience out of their seats during the opening performance of the ceremony. By the way, his album, Un verano sin ti, is the first Spanish-language compilation in history to be nominated in the Album of the Year category.

The bitter side of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences gala came from Sam Smith and transgender artist Kim Petras. Both performed their song Unholy -for which they received the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance-, with a staging that extolled the figure of the devil and for which they received a lot of criticism across social networks.

Before the ceremony, artists and guests sported some outlandish designs, such as the flowing dress of the singer Lizzo - who won the awards for Recording of the Year and to Best Remixed Recording - or Doja Cat, with a Morticia Addams-style look, amidst the flashes, lights and screaming fans that gathered in the vicinity of the Crypto.com Arena.
