Golden Globes: Guillermo del Toro and 'Argentina, 1985' add a Hispanic touch to the 80th Golden Globe Awards

'The Fabelmans' and 'Abbott Elementary' are the big winners of the award ceremony known as the "prelude to the Oscars."

After the 2022 boycott, the Golden Globes, organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, returned to television to award the best actors, actresses, movies, and series of the year. The 80th edition was held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in California and was hosted by Jerrod Carmichael. The following are the winners of what is known as the "prelude to the Oscars":

Film categories

The big screen continues to make the most headlines and categories at the Golden Globes. There was no shortage of great Hispanic names among the award winners, such as Guillermo del Toro (Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio) or Argentina, 1985.

However, The Banshees of Inesherin was nominated in all film categories. The film starring Colin Firth and Brendan Gleeson, also an Oscar favorite, won a total of three of the eight Golden Globes it was up for, including Best Musical or Comedy.

Television categories

The small screen is almost as important as movies and the Golden Globes are one of the few awards that value series and movies equally. This year's big surprise came from Abbott Elementary. The TV series won three Golden Globes, including the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical Series, an award that many believed Jenna Ortega would win for her role in Wednesday. House of the Dragon won Best Television Series in the Drama category.
