Gasoline shortages and long lines at gas stations due to recent flooding in Florida

Broward County Mayor Lamar Fisher called for calm and explained that they are already working on the supply problem.

The heavy rains that hit South Florida affected gasoline distribution, which is causing shortages at gas stations in the area. Broward County Mayor Lamar Fisher asked residents not to be alarmed and assured them that work is already underway to address the shortages.

Last week Broward County had to deal with heavy and sudden rains that caused severe flooding which is now affecting gasoline distribution.

"Deliveries to stations were stopped briefly because of tremendous rainfall in Southeast Florida, which caused some stations to run low," explained GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis, Patrick De Haan.

The mayor of Broward reported that one of the most important gasoline distribution centers in South Florida was severely affected by the rains, but that work is already underway to get it back up and running.

"What’s happening is, their pumps were inundated with water. Now, they are trying to get these pumps back in working order to get the fuel out of their tanks to get a cord into the tankers so they can get the fuel in the gas stations" he said.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava also said that they are working "closely" with state and federal partners to get gasoline distributed as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, many drivers shared through social networks that they had to visit several service stations before finding one that did have gasoline and then oftentimes had to wait in long lines to access the service.

However, the authorities are asking the public to remain calm in order to not let themselves get carried away and as a result, increase their consumption.
