Researchers from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine is reportedly causing significant adverse effects in people above 65 years of age.
According to a data analysis conducted by the government agency, a link was found between the vaccine and blood clotting among the elderly.
The main health problem found to be caused by the drug is pulmonary embolism (blockage in one of the lungs' arteries caused by clots). However, among the results they also reportedly found other effects such as lack of oxygen transmission to the heart, intravascular coagulation and a blood platelet disorder known as immune thrombocytopenia.

The research
According to The Epoch Times, researchers evaluated data from 17.4 million older Americans who received vaccines between Dec. 10, 2020, and Jan. 16, 2022.
The assistance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) was essential, as their database was used to conduct the research, and probability tests were used to detect risks.
The objective of the analysis was to determine whether the vaccine increased the incidence of certain health problems. In order to do make any clear determinations, the results first had to reach a certain threshold of statistical significance. Researchers also had to account for any potential external factors that could have affected the data.
No action has been taken
The FDA has not yet announced any measures to deal with this problem. According to the government agency, no decision will be made based on these screenings.
According to a statement, they will need an even more thorough investigation that yields "more solid" results before they can decide on the next step.
"Because an early warning system does not prove that the vaccines cause these outcomes, more robust epidemiologic studies with adjustment for confounding, including age and nursing home residency, are underway to further evaluate these signals," Science Direct reported.
It is worth noting that several reports have already linked Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccines to a number of side effects.
