Meta has decided to create its own version Twitter Blue. To be known as Meta Verified, Mark Zuckerberg created his own premium subscription that he will implement on both Facebook and Instagram for a price of $11.99 per month, or $14.99 per month on iOS systems.

It was Meta's CEO himself who announced the decision via Facebook and Instagram, in which he assured that the service will be available this week in Australia and New Zealand. In addition, he anticipated its implementation in other countries in the coming weeks. This paid version, he explained in his statement, will allow users to "verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support."

Meta Verified is, according to Zuckerberg, "about increasing authenticity and security across our services." Not only that, users who choose to join this paid version will also gain "greater visibility and reach in areas such as search and recommendations," as the company told Business Insider.

Meta Verified is a strategy that makes sense

In addition, Business Insider contacted Matt Navarra, a network consultant, who assured that the strategy makes sense despite the few subscriptions that Twitter Blue received in its first month:

The market has already been tested by rivals, the advantages mostly already exist and do not require much engineering time to create this new product, and it generates a new source of revenue at a time when most companies are facing challenging economic hurdles.

A company spokesman told The New York Times that Meta Verified will be coming to the nation in the coming weeks, though he declined to name other countries where the paid version will be made available. In addition, he explained, Facebook and Instagram accounts will need to enroll separately in Meta Verified. This will mean that users who want to be verified on both social networks at the same time will have to pay at least $24 per month.
