First president to face criminal charges
This is an unprecedented decision. In fact, Donald Trump will be the first president to be indicted on criminal charges. Although the indictment remains under seal and will be announced in the coming days, Trump's indictment comes in the wake of what is known as the Stormy Daniels affair.
A New York grand jury has indicted the former president for using campaign finance money to pay off the porn actress in exchange for her silence; an indictment that carries little weight not only for the type of crime but also for the latest revelations that would exonerate Donald Trump.

One of the protagonists of the case, porn actress Stormy Daniels, celebrated Trump's indictment and took advantage of the opportunity to market her business now that she is getting more attention as a result of this case.

After learning of his indictment, the 45th president issued a statement declaring his innocence and dismissing the indictment on state charges as a new political instrumentalization of the legal system designed to interfere with his campaign for a second term in the White House. Donald Trump further stated that it will be very difficult to have a fair trial in New York.
The former president was not the only one to denounce this as a political case. The Republican Party backed Trump and considers that this is a witch hunt and an intolerable interference in the presidential election.
