DeSantis' popularity soars outside Florida

The Florida governor surpasses Donald Trump in fame after his landslide victory in the midterm elections.

Ron DeSantis became the big winner of the last midterms, where he won a big victory over his rival Charlie Crist. The re-elected governor of Florida enjoys huge popularity in the state and was far and away the most voted candidate in most counties. This fame has already spread well beyond Floridian borders at a time when there is growing speculation about his possible candidacy for the 2024 elections.

According to a poll published by Neighborhood Research and conducted in Iowa, 32.5% of Americans named Ron DeSantis as their favorite candidate, while 29.9% chose the former president. Consultant Rick Shaftan called Donald Trump a "stern loser."

With support barely half what it was a year ago in a time when DeSantis’s vote has nearly tripled, Trump becomes a severe underdog in the race.

In the same poll conducted last year, Trump trailed DeSantis in popularity. The former president obtained the support of more than half of the voters (55.7%), while the Florida governor only had the support of 12.3%.

According to a poll published by YouGov, 23% of Americans would prefer Ron DeSantis as the Republican nominee, while Donald Trump received just 20% support.

Among GOP supporters, the Florida governor received higher support than the former president in this same poll. Forty-one percent of Republicans opted for DeSantis and 39% indicate they preferred Trump as a candidate.
