Democrat funneled thousands of dollars to his family during campaign

Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina paid his grandson nearly $100,000 during the mid-term election cycle for "campaign management fees."

James Clyburn, a Democratic representative from South Carolina, paid six-figure sums to members of his family during the 2022 election campaign, Federal Election Commission records show. The congressman's campaign not only gave tens of thousands of dollars to a company linked to his son-in-law, but butthe the  it also paid his grandson nearly $100,000 during the midterm election cycle for "campaign management fees."

According to records, Clyburn also paid $57,500 in rent to 49 Magnolia Blossom LLC, a company with close ties to his daughter, Jennifer Clyburn Reed, during the last election cycle. Reed's husband, Walter A. Reed, is the registered agent of the limited liability company, according to South Carolina business records.

While such payments are not illegal, ethics experts generally disapprove of such practices. Clyburn has not publicly discussed the payments, and he did not respond to Fox News Digital's requests for comment on the matter. Clyburn already has a history of disbursing campaign money to family members.

After the president took office, he nominated the Democratic congressman's daughter, Jennifer Clyburn Reed, as federal co-chair of the Southeast Regional Crescent Commission in 2021. In December 2021, the Senate approved her for the position with the intention that she would help manage economic difficulties in the southeastern United States.
