Defense paralyzes delivery of new F-35 for including Chinese material

This finding is a violation of federal law since foreign parts cannot be used for defense purposes.

The Pentagon made the decision to temporarily suspend further deliveries of the F-35 after a Chinese-sourced component was discovered in each of the fighter jets.

An investigation by the manufacturer Lockheed Martin found an alloy of Chinese origin in the aircraft's magnets. The presence of this material poses a risk, and violates federal defense laws. The use of parts of foreign origin is not permitted.

Will not affect aircraft in service

The supplier of the materials for the manufacture of the F-35 Honeywell did not provide an explanation and conveyed its commitment to the Department of Defense. "Honeywell remains committed to supplying high-quality products that meet or exceed all customer contract requirements," communicated company president Adam Kress.

On the other hand, the F-35 Joint Program Office notified that fighter aircraft already in service will not be affected by this discovery. His spokesman, Russell Goemaere, confirmed that this part "does not transmit information or harm the integrity of the F-35." At the same time, he said that they already have a substitute for the alloy.

Vital for the F-35

The discovered alloy is incorporated in the turbomachinery pumps , one of the F-35's vital systems, as they are responsible for power generation.

The Warzone notes that these turbomachines provide the electrical power needed for ground aircraft maintenance, main engine starting, and emergency power. They also provide compressed air for the thermal management system.
