Davos Economic Forum denies that Elon Musk was invited

As reported by a summit spokesperson, the last time the Tesla CEO received an invitation was in 2015.

Twitter owner Elon Musk was not among the celebrities invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Officials from the annual gathering of business executives, world leaders and trendsetters denied that the tycoon was on the list of invitees.

Forum spokesperson Yann Zopf assured that the claim Musk made in December about declining an invitation was false. According to the Associated Press, the last time the tycoon had received an invitation was "not this year and not recently - last time in 2015."

Despite this, Musk assured in a Dec. 22 tweet that he, like personalities such as Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Union, or actor Idris Elba, received an invitation to attend the annual summit:

Musk last invited in 2015

Zopf claimed that the organizers had indeed extended invitations to Musk, as CEO of Tesla, to participate in the summit several times in the 2010s.

However, Zopf further explained that Musk never signed up for or went to the annual meeting in Davos. This was likely not due to the price. As revealed by AP, annual memberships range from 120,000 to 850,000 Swiss francs (between $130,000 and $921,000).

Musk did not specify when he received the invitation or respond to statements denying that the World Economic Forum invited him to the 2023 meeting. However, true to form, he published a poll in which he asked his followers whether they think the World Economic Forum should control the world:

At the time of this article's publishing, 930,150 people had participated, and 86.1% of the votes say the WEF should not, while 13.9% of those polled consider it right that the meeting should make decisions that affect the entire planet.
