Cheers' actress Kirstie Alley dies at 71

The actress, who played Rebecca in the famous series, was battling a recent cancer diagnosis.

Actress Kirstie Alley died Monday after battling a recent cancer diagnosis. Her family released a statement on social media announcing her passing:

We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered. She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was onscreen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.

Alley will be remembered for playing Rebecca on the hit series Cheers. She received an Emmy for her role in the series. John Travolta who co-stared with her in the comedy Look Who’s Talking, dedicated a few final words to the actress:

Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.
