Big cities are heading for a dismal crime record

Since 2020, violent crime has skyrocketed in the country. These are the cities where crime continues to grow.

Six major cities are on track to surpass historic violent crime records in 2021. In the six months through 2022, New York and Washington D.C. lead the way in the increase of these crimes. And all in the midst of a wave of contempt for authority in the wake of BLM attacks.

Along with Baltimore, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Atlanta, those cities are poised to surpass their 2021 crime records. According to data reviewed by Fox News, New York City has experienced a 25.8% increase in violent crime in the first half of the year.

Homicides, rapes, assaults and robberies have been growing steadily since 2020. Especially homicides, which progressed 30% from 2019 to 2020 and another 5% between 2020 and 2021.

Violent crime in the nation's capital will grow by 12% in the first half of 2022 compared to 2021. It is followed by Los Angeles, with an increase of 8.6%. Philadelphia and Baltimore recorded increases of 7% and 6.1%, respectively. Atlanta rounds out the group with an increase in violent crime of 5.5% versus the same period in 2022.

Black Lives Matter and Police Defunding

The experts mentioned by Fox News discuss the factors that have contributed to the increase in crime. The causes are divided between the restrictions of the pandemic, the lack of police vigilance in the midst of an increase in crime and the widespread protests in the country. Violent acts led by movements such as Black Lives Matter and fueled by collectives calling for the de-funding of the police.

2020, with the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, was one of the triggers for this increase. One event was used to unleash a wave of violence in the country.

Violence that has turned into contempt for the pillars of the law, even encouraged by the public authorities themselves, as is the case of several democratic representatives who, in the midst of the wave of violence, openly call for the de-funding of the police or limit police resources in their areas of influence.
