Bad Bunny announces temporary retirement for "emotional health"

The artist has decided to put his career on hold to focus on himself and enjoy the fruits he has reaped from his music.

Puerto Rican singer Benito Martinez, better known as Bad Bunny, informed in a recent interview with Billboard magazine, that he has decided to take a break next year to take care of his "physical [and] emotional health."

The urban music performer is at the pinnacle of his career after achieving several artistic milestones such as being the first Hispanic singer to be named Artist of the Year at the Apple Music Awards as well as having his album widely considered as one of the top albums of the year.

Bad Bunny also managed to be the most streamed artist on Spotify for the second year in a row and received the most nominations (10) at this year's Grammy Awards. For all the wonders he achieved professionally, he might be at a very different point in his life personally.

The artist explained that he will take advantage of 2023 to take a break and dedicate himself to his physical and emotional health.

"I have a couple of sporadic commitments, and I'll go to the studio, but there's no pressure," he said.

In the past, Bud Bunny confessed that he has dealt with depression. Although he clarified that he never went to a specialist to be diagnosed, he felt overwhelmed by his success.

"I don't even know how to explain it to you. At that moment I felt so much anguish, so much fury, so much fear, so much impotence. It's a very strange feeling that has happened to me only a few times in my life," he explained.

At the time, Bud Bunny said that when he felt he was reaching his limit, his solution was to "unplug so he wouldn't break," a method he may be using once again by opting to take a break from music.

In the meantime, the urban music performer said he will take advantage of his next concert on Dec. 10 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to temporarily say goodbye to his audience.
