Ana de Armas to star as Marilyn in new Netflix series

The Spanish-Cuban actress will star in the Monroe biopic, entitled 'Blonde'.

Netflix has previewed the first images of the series about Marilyn Monroe starring Ana de Armas. The Spanish-Cuban actress plays the Hollywood icon, whose premiere is scheduled for September 28, although it will be presented at the Venice Film Festival a few days earlier, on the 23rd.

The characterization of Ana de Armas as Marilyn has left good impressions in social networks, due to the great resemblance of both actresses. Director Andrew Dominik assures that he has been faithful to the story, and that it will reflect Monroe's life and tragic end.

Blonde, is the adaptation of the novel of the same title by Joyce Carol Oates (published in 2000). Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale and Julianne Nicholson are some of the performers who complete the cast.

Marilyn, Hollywood icon

Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson) became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s for playing the role of the blonde bombshell. She was one of the most sought-after actresses for a decade, and her controversial relationships made her popularity skyrocket, until she also became a symbol of pop culture (especially after her death).

Her failed marriages (to both Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller) were the subject of the tabloids of the day. Subsequently, she was linked to President John F. Kennedy (remember JFK's famous birthday), and to his brother Bobby. On August 4, 1962, she died at the age of 36 from an overdose of barbiturates at her home in Los Angeles.
