Alan Dershowitz: "This Administration uses the justice system as a political weapon"

The progressive lawyer warns that registration should be a last resort. The evidence could be invalid before a judge.

The surprise search of former President Donald Trump's residence by the FBI has political, but also judicial implications. Newsmax has interviewed progressive attorney Alan Dershowitz about the Federal Bureau of Investigation's actions and possible legal consequences.

In Dershowitz's view, "a raid should be the last resort." In the interview, the lawyer says that "You don’t engage in a raid unless you have exhausted all the other remedies, unless you believe that the person raid will destroy the evidence".

Invalid evidence in court

In his statement following the search, former President Trump has said he does not understand the reasons behind it. "After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate". The usual procedure is different, says the lawyer: "You write a letter to the lawyers, saying we will show up before a judge".

Moreover, the lawyer warns that the FBI's action could have adverse effects on the investigation: "I hope that this raid has a justification. If it doesn’t have a justification, the material seized will be suppressed" and cannot be used in court.

Weaponizing the judicial system

At one point, the lawyer raises the tone of his accusations against the actions of Joe Biden's administration: "This Administration has used the weaponization of the justice system against the political enemies. Has arrested people, denied them bail, put them in handcuffs… use all kind of techniques that are not usually applied to american citizens".

And he stresses that the system is used for political purposes: "In order to get on television, you have all these raids where people are arrested, with handcuffs, sometimes putting leg shackles, bail denied…". The conclusion is that "Presumption still applies, but it is applied only in theory, not in practice".

Alan Dershowitz has voted for Joe Biden, and has defended his policy performance so far, despite being the most unpopular president since Harry Truman. Dershowitz believes Biden has done "great things" so far.
